George Powell is a gifted singer, composer, pianist and worship leader who has lived in Houston, Texas for almost 10 years. He serves as the Worship Pastor at Fallbrook Church in Houston, where the church enjoys a membership of 8,000.

George, a native of Austin, Texas, graduated from Lyndon B. Johnson High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from Huston-Tillotson University.

One of the highlights of his career was performing for President Barack Obama at the Austin, Texas rally that attracted 20,000 supporters. He proudly remembers the “shout-out” the first African American President gave him during his opening comments, thanking George Powell for his performance.

In June 2010, George was secured by Houston entrepreneur Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale to sing for his daughter’s multi-million-dollar wedding ceremony as well as several songs during the wedding reception along with Boyz II Men.

In June 2013, George Powell was honored by the City of Austin for his musical contributions in the Austin and surrounding areas. Then Mayor Lee Leffingwell proclaimed June 23, 2011 as George Powell Day in Austin, Texas.

Powell was tapped in December 2013 to be the co-director of the 400-voice choir for the Christmas Spectacular at Champion Forest Baptist Church in Houston, Texas which attracted more than 10,000 people in 4 performances.

George shares a 2015 Stellar Award nomination (the highest Gospel Music award) for his song “Great is The Lord” on the CD compilation “Earnest Pugh Presents Gospel’s Rising Stars”. George is the featured lead on the self-composed song.

George Powell has released several recording projects including one live recording in 2010, a Christmas studio recording in 2015 and a Christmas EP in 2019.

In June 2020, Powell released a George Floyd arrangement of the song “A Change Is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke. The song has gone viral on Facebook with over 2 million views and 75,000 shares on all social media platforms and has garnered wide online reception. His music is available on all digital music outlets.
